'Le Vieux' (the old man who lived in the compound with me) died this past week. There has been a flurry of visitors coming to mourn. Everyone who has come to wish me 'du courage' has not used the french 'mourir' (to die) but partir (to leave). 'Oh Nima. Le vieux il est parti. Du courage eh.'
Funny how just when I am down and out, Togo is able to challenge me - in this case, to look at death in a different light. And it's a pretty good outlook on life. Ou bien?
